In today’s world, a girl’s free time is precious, but figuring out how to make the most of those spare moments can sometimes be difficult. Faithgirlz! is here to help, with over one hundred unique ideas, activities, and time maximizers you can do by yourself or with your friends. From planning the perfect relaxing afternoon to creating quick and awesome DIY masterpieces, and even tips on hosting amazing sleepovers (complete with lip synch battles and the best-ever snacks), 101 Ways to Have Fun has something for every situation and mood. Whether you have ten minutes or an entire afternoon to fill, finding the ultimate ways to de-stress and kick back with friends has never been easier!

This book has 101 different projects that you can do everyday. It’s divided into sections with things you can do alone and/or with friends and family. The projects time limits range from 10 minutes to more than an hour. So you can find something to do that you have time for.

It’s divided into 9 chapters that cover everything from mini-makeovers to getting crafty. There are all kinds of fun little things for your girls to do and it will solve that ever increasing “mom, I’m bored” syndrome. My oldest daughter who is outside of the age range for this says “We will not be bored until we finish them all.” lol She thinks she is a comedian.

Anyway, I thought this was a cute book with some really great ideas. If you have girls that have a hard time figuring out what to do or maybe they are having a sleep over this would be a fun book for your girl.

Glimmer Girls and Samantha Sanderson Tween Book reviews

It’s always fun when you can find good wholesome books for your kids to read. A lot of times I have a hard time finding books that my tween child would be interested in but there are some really good ones out there you just have to find them. I was really pleased to hear that FaithGirlz teamed up with Natalie Grant and created a fun new series called the Glimmer Girls. ZonderKidz sent me the first two books in the series The London Art Chase and A Dolphin Wish. Here is a little information about these two books.

9780310752653.jpgLondon Art Chase

In London Art Chase, the first title in the new Faithgirlz Glimmer Girls series, readers meet 10-year-old twins Mia and Maddie and their adorable little sister, LuLu. All the girls are smart, sassy, and unique in their own way, each with a special little something that adds to great family adventures.

There is pure excitement in the family as the group heads to London for the first time to watch mom, famous singer Gloria Glimmer, perform. But on a day trip to the National Gallery, Maddie witnesses what she believes to be an art theft and takes her sisters and their beloved and wacky nanny Miss Julia, on a wild and crazy adventure as they follow the supposed thief to his lair. Will the Glimmer Girls save the day? And will Maddie find what makes her shine?9780310752530.jpg

A Dolphin Wish

Join twins Mia and Maddie and their sidekick little sister, LuLu, as they travel the country finding adventure, mystery, and sometimes mischief along the way. Together with their famous mother, singer Gloria Glimmer, and their slightly wacky nanny Miss Twist, the sisters learn lessons about being good friends, telling the truth, and a whole lot more.

In A Dolphin Wish a three-night stop in the city of San Diego seems like it might be just the break the girls need—lovely weather and great sights to see. That is until they hear animal handlers at “Watery World” talking about the trouble they’ve been having keeping the animals in their habitats. Mia and her sisters cannot resist a challenge and they talk Miss Twist into another visit to the educational amusement park to search for clues as to what or who is helping the animals escape.

About the Author: Natalie Grant

Four-time Grammy nominated Natalie Grant is a top-selling Christian & Gospel artist with over 3 million in career sales. The Gospel Music Association has named her Female Vocalist of the Year 5 times and she has had multiple number 1s on the Billboard charts.  Beyond music, in 2005 Natalie co-founded Hope for Justice International, an organization that identifies,  rescues, and restores victims of human trafficking.  Natalie resides in Nashville, TN with her husband, producer/songwriter Bernie Herms and their three children: twins Grace and Bella, and their youngest, Sadie.

I found the stories charming and fun. The provide life lessons along side with a humorous and somewhat adventurous stories. The girls learn so much through each of their adventures and I think it will make remembering these important lessons in a much more entertaining way.

I love how Natalie Grant used her own life and kids as inspiration for her stories. It makes it that much more believable. It also makes me wonder if maybe a few of these things actually did happen. Maybe? 🙂

Regardless I think your girls ages 8 and up will enjoy these fun stories.

9780310742517.jpg_3Samantha Sanderson: Without A Trace

Sam Sanderson is an independent, resourceful, high-tech cheerleader. She dreams of becoming an award-winning journalist like her mother, so she’s always looking for articles to publish in her middle-school paper (where she secretly hopes to become chief editor). With a police officer for a father, Sam is in no short supply of writing material.

In the fourth book of the Faithgirlz Samantha Sanderson series, Sam’s friend Tam Lee is missing. As the days pass, all clues seem to point to something sinister in Sam’s opinion. Sam must decide whether to do what everyone wants her to and let law enforcement continue to work as though Tam is a run-away. Or should Sam follow her heart and keep poking around looking for more clues?

The Samantha Sanderson series is about an ordinary girl with extraordinary dreams. Each book touches on a crime straight from headlines, from bomb threats to bullying, while following Samantha and her friends as they navigate middle-school and questions of faith.

About the Author: Robin Caroll

Born and raised in Louisiana, Robin is a southerner through and through. Her passion has always been to tell stories to entertain others. Robin’s mother, bless her heart, is a genealogist who instilled in Robin the deep love of family and pride of heritage–two aspects Robin weaves into each of her 14 published novels. When she isn’t writing, Robin spends time with her husband of twenty years, her three beautiful daughters and two handsome grandsons, and their character-filled pets at home–in the South, where else? She gives back to the writing community by serving as Conference Director for ACFW. Her books have finaled/placed in such contests as the Carol Award, Holt Medallion, RT Reviewer’s Choice Award, Bookseller’s Best, and Book of the Year.

Samantha Sanderson is going on the opposite side of the spectrum. I would recommend this series for your older tween. It’s full of mystery and intrigue. Even though it is the fourth book in the series it can be read as a stand alone.

I like that it actually deals with real life and news that affects all of our lives. It deals with how what’s going on in the world affects even our children. I would recommend this series for 11 and up.

My Review:

You should check out my review about the NIV version here. This one is the NKJV so if you want a different version with all the same features this one is a great one to get. I wish this one had the flap like the NIV one has. My daughter loves that feature, but, it is still pretty and it has all of the same extras that you read about in my review of the NIV version here. I do love the pretty cover and the fact that they are a little different on the cover design aspect, but the biggest difference is the translation and that is it. This one also comes in a blue leather version as well.

Faith Builders Bible NIrV

004The Faith Builders Bible, NIrV uses the popularity of brick-building pieces to engage children with the Word of God. Includes 24 full-color pages of illustrations plus the complete New International Reader’s Version (NIrV) of the Bible (from Genesis to Revelation) in a very readable, 9-point font size.

  • Boy or Girl
  • Age: 6-12

My Review: 006005

I was a little disappointed in this one. I expected there to be many more features but really the only features are the full page images of scenes made from bricks with a bit of an explanation to it. There aren’t any devotionals or study notes. It’s just a simple Bible. However, I like that it is in the NIV and the images are really cool. Maybe it will give your brick builder some Godly inspiration.

My Review:

This is a fun book. It talks about everything from how to take care of your hair to what is the best styles for your face type. It has some fun and easy hair styles to try and we did try them. Some take longer than others and I had to relearn how to do a Dutch braid and fish tail braid. However, my kids were very happy with the results of their hair styles and they want to try others. Makes me happy because I enjoyed doing them and even missed doing it once they turned a certain age. I’m definitely going to enjoy this book while the interest in it lasts.

Here are a couple pics of two hairstyles I did on my youngest daughter for church. The first one is from the book and the second was inspired by the book. My older two did two of the hairstyles from the book but they didn’t give me the opportunity to get pics of them.

Now I will tell you that it does not give super detailed instructions because it assumes you know how to do certain braids but you can always check YouTube for tutorials to help refresh your memory on braids or teach you a new one.

All of these would make great gifts with the upcoming holiday season. I would definitely check into them.
