Patterns of Evidence Exodus a review

For those of you who have been following my blogging journey for a while now you know that there are two subjects I’m pretty passionate about, history and the Bible. So when the opportunity for this review came up I quickly jumped on it. It combines these two of my favorite things. poe header (1)

I absolutely love when things come together to prove the Bible is real and can be counted on as a historical document of real facts and the real history of the Jewish people. I mean if it wasn’t true then what are we basing our beliefs on?

So before I get into the review I want to share some information about the DVD and the filmmaker behind it.

Patterns of Evidence Exodus

About the filmpatterns of evidence exodus

  • Won 13 awards on the film festival circuit in 2014, including a Gold Remi Award winner for Best Director at the Worldfest Houston Intl. Film Festival, the Gold Crown Award for Best Picture and Best Documentary at ICVM 2014, and Official Selection at the Soho International Film Festival in New York.
  • Supplemental resources associated with the film include a nearly 400-page hardcover book, small group Bible study, Movie Event kit, youth version (called Young Explorers), homeschool curriculum and others.
  • It includes powerful interviews with some of the top experts in the fields of archaeology and Egyptology as well as people of influence in the Middle East.
  • The film has an objective, fair-minded and balanced approach. It allows viewpoints from all sides to be heard in a respectful way while asking honest questions of the Bible and scholars’ views. It does not preach and lets the evidence speak for itself. This allows the film to be very shareable with those of different viewpoints.

About the author/filmmaker/producer

Tim Mahoney founded Mahoney Media Group, Inc. (MMG) in 1989. MMG focused its business on television and video production for regional and national companies. In 2014 Tim founded Thinking Man Films & Media as an international documentary & publishing company with a focus on education and the Bible. Tim produced numerous productions for Christian organizations including the Billy Graham Association, World Wide Pictures, and Compassion International. Tim also served as the President of the board for the International Christian Visual Media Association (ICVM). Tim’s first full feature documentary film, “PATTERNS OF EVIDENCE: THE EXODUS”, released in January 2015. The film took 12 years to develop and takes a scientific approach to investigate the events of the biblical Exodus. The overall vision for his film company is to explore “patterns of evidence” that support the biblical narrative and engages the world in a conversation. The film takes a balanced approach and leaves the audience to decide for themselves if the Bible is real history or myth.

My review:

Oh how I enjoyed this documentary. If you love history and the Bible and seeing how it all fits together you will enjoy this film. The filmmaker captures your attention from the beginning. The intrigue and the mystery and the findings…. oh my.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching this. I was halfway through the first hour of the DVD when my hubby came home from work and we started it over. I mean it was so good I could definitely watch it again.

I enjoyed the fact that he used secular interviews as well as those who believe the Bible is true. It is funny to me how the secular interviews keep saying how it couldn’t possibly be proof of the Exodus but yet it lines up perfectly with what the Bible says. It’s awesome. I really don’t know how to describe it.

He went about this film in a very scientific way, looking for the pattern of this historical event. Yet the non-believers didn’t want to admit what they had found. I don’t want to spoil it for you so I don’t want to say much about what they had found but I do want to say from a teaching perspective the documentation they found is just phenomenal.

From a mom who teaches homeschool students I say this would be an awesome film to show your students. Or if you teach history in a co-op or Christian school you should definitely check in to this. This would be a big asset for anyone teaching ancient history. I believe this is something that could be utilized in the education of our children.

This made me love history even more. Seriously you should totally pick up a copy of this DVD.

You can purchase a copy by going to the Patterns of Evidence store. AND for my readers I have a special coupon code for you to use and get $3 off of your purchase.

Miracles from Heaven in Theaters Today

miraclesfromheaven

I had the opportunity to see this movie in February at a pre-screening. I took my eldest daughter with me. The movie is based on a true story about the miracle working power of God and how the family dealt with a terminal illness and their faith through it all.

I highly recommend you take a box of tissue with you. I cried 15 minutes into the movie and until about 5 minutes before the end. Both tears of joy and sadness. But Oh my goodness how wonderful this story is. Jennifer Garner was so good as the mother and she played the part believably well.

If you watch closely you will see an appearance by the band Third Day. You must check out the trailer and then purchase tickets to go and see it. You will not be disappointed by this story.

Captive DVD review & giveaway

Based on a miraculous story about the power of faith, Captive is an “amazing, inspiring” drama about the spiritual collision of two lost souls, Brian Nichols (Golden Globe Nominee David Oyelowo), on the run from police and desperate to make contact with his newborn son, takes recently widowed mother Ashley Smith (Kata Mara) hostage in her own apartment.  Fearing for her life and desperately hoping to see her daughter again, she turns to Rick Warren’s The Purpose Driven Life for guidance.  Ashley and her captor face a crossroads where they discover hope and light in the midst of despair in the moving film that Dick Rolfe, CEO, Dove Foundation hailed as “powerful.”

DVD Release Date: January 5, 2016

Runtime: 96 minutes

Rating: PG-13 (for mature thematic elements involving violence and substance abuse)

There are over 30 minutes of bonus content on this DVD including Journey Through Darkness: Filming Captive and Faith and The Purpose Driven Life.  Also included with this DVD is a Digital HD copy that can be instantly streamed and downloaded.

My Review:

I enjoyed this movie. I was surprised by the amount of actors that I had seen before from the main stream.  The story is very dramatic. There is not a lot of twists and turns to it, which I like. It seems to have kept to the reality of the situation well. I do remember this happening and hearing about it on the news.   It’s not an “action” movie this is a drama that really happened. Because of that, it may feel slow at times.  Over all I felt the movie was very well made. The actors protrayed the roles believably and I felt the story had the desired affect.

Now because FlyBy loves ya’ll and I love ya’ll I am hosting a giveaway for a copy of this DVD.  All you have to do is click the link below to go to the giveaway page and enter it to win. The giveaway will close at midnight on the 27th.  So make sure you head over and enter before its too late. Also make sure to share this with your friends.

My family and I sat down and watched this. We all agreed that it keeps right on with the quality of work that we are used to seeing from Phil Vischer from all of his projects (VeggieTales and What’s In The Bible?). It’s another great resource to teach your kids the word of God in a fun and interesting way.  The characters are the same lovable puppets that you see in the “What’s in the Bible?” series. And Phil Vischer does a great job with the voice overs. We are very pleased with this new series and look forward to watching lots more.

This episode is available now for JellyTelly subscribers and will be available everywhere Tuesday Oct. 20th on DVD. However, I’ve been blessed with a DVD copy to give away to one reader. My review:

I love finding new movies that are family friendly and especially ones that have a good message in them. This movie is safe for the whole family. There is no language in it but some minor violence. Definitely no gore. I must admit some of the acting is a bit cheesy but for the most part the story itself is really cute. It kind of gave me that whole Spy Kids feel without the budget.

There are a few familiar faces in it. You will see Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future), Frank Collison (Oh Brother Where Art Thou) and Kenton Duty (Disney’s Shake It Up).

My overall opinion is it’s a good family movie for all ages.

You can check out the PureFlix site to find out how you can purchase a copy of this movie and don’t forget to enter to win by filling out the gleam widget below. (If you reading this by email or in a reader you may have to click the link below to enter.)

REVIEW: This is a great alternative to other streaming sites that will ensure your children will not stumble across anything inappropriate. You can stream movies and shows directly to your computer or mobile device. With the mobile app available for both Android and Apple. I was a little bummed that there is not an app for the Kindle Fire since that is the tablet I have. However, we downloaded the app to my hubbies Android tablet and everything ran fine. I can add it to my daughters iPad mini and she can watch some of her favorite faith based cartoons. It runs pretty smooth on my laptop too.

It was refreshing not to have to sort through a bunch of junk to get to good movies. Working for a Christian retailer I have seen many of these movies on the shelves but its just not affordable for me to purchase all of them. This service has allowed me to watch many of them and in turn help my customers. So for me its had a two-fold reward.

About the movie:

Released on DVD March 24, 2015

99 Minutes // Genre: Family, Inspirational // Rating:  NR

Having lost his faith many years ago, Detective Bill Broadly is called to investigate the disappearance of the local church’s collection plate. As he questions its various church members, rumors swirl as more congregants learn about the theft. When one unexpected church-goer confesses to stealing the funds, the confession resurrects Broadly’s views on God, and helps him see that through faith and belief there really is rebirth and redemption.

There are more and more good faith based family friendly movies coming out than ever before. This is another good movie. If you can look past some of the acting you can really enjoy the story that this movie is about. For some the acting truly influences you on whether or not to buy a movie and I will admit that some of the acting is not the best, HOWEVER that is not the case for all the characters.  Now if you are like me and can look past that then you can truly enjoy this movie as a great story about a man who is learning to find his faith as well as a woman who is struggling with how life is going for her.  God brings these two characters together and uses this relationship to help each other with things that they are both going through.  This story really is about Grace. And I hope you will check it out and see it for yourself.

You can purchase a copy of this DVD via Wal-Mart.com for $12.96.

Great Family Friendly Christian Based Movies

We all can agree that we would love to see more and more family friendly movies being made by Hollywood. And in recent years the movie industry is noticing. We’ve had a number of good faith based films come up and the acting is getting better and better. Last year we saw three wonderful faith based movies: Mom’s Night Out, The Song and God’s Not Dead as well as Heaven is for Real. This year there are three more movies that I am looking forward to seeing.

Below is the trailers for each of the movies that is coming out. If you can’t see the video’s click on the title to go to YouTube and watch the trailers. The first one “Do You Believe” is currently in theaters now.

Roadmap Genesis Review & Giveaway

Roadmap Genesis is a film documentary that makes the case that the Book of Genesis is a roadmap containing guideposts on how to live a productive, fruitful, and fulfilling life that will help our society lift itself out of its current decline and return it to prosperity, promise, and accomplishment.

When Filmmaker Nolan Lebovitz found himself at a crossroads in his life, he knew he had to choose between continuing to make the Hollywood suspense roadmapgenesisthrillers that were his livelihood and trying to make the world a better place for his new young family. After much struggle, he found his answer in the Book of Genesis.

He decided to combine his love of the Book of Genesis with his passion for filmmaking and set out to travel the United States, interviewing clergy and public figures in order to build an undeniable argument about the continued importance of the Book of Genesis as guiding force in our Judeo-Christian country.

Roadmap Genesis invites Americans of all faiths to engage in a dialogue about the relevance of the Bible in the modern age. Through interviews ranging from Gov. Mike Huckabee of Fox News Channel to Rabbi David Wolpe, from Alan Dershowitz to the Archbishop of Chicago Cardinal Francis George, from Erick Stakelbeck of the Christian Broadcasting Network to Ken Ham of Answers in Genesis and the Creation Museum, and many, many more, Nolan explores the rules that God has set forth to help us maintain a successful and working society

My Review:

As a Christian who believes the validity of the whole Bible, I firmly believe that without Genesis the rest of the Bible would be invalid. Genesis is the beginning of humanity. The beginning of my faith and without it there is no point in ever having to have a savior.  That said, I felt this documentary did an excellent job in showing how going back to the beginning and finding our roots and finding how God wanted man to be is very important.

Genesis is the beginning. It explains where we come from and why we are here. It lays out God’s plan for this world and how he wanted us to live. In fellowship with Him on a daily basis.

I think this is a good DVD and it will make you think about things: God, the world, relationships, etc. There was a bit of an “environmentalist” message when it turned to talking about stewarding the planet and taking care of it. However, it was not overly pushed.

This is not a “Christian” film. However, it is a film where both Jews and Christians talk about the importance of using Genesis as a roadmap back to peace and prosperity in our nation.

I honestly believe that it will take more than that. My personal belief is that we need to turn back to God as a whole and use the entire Bible as a roadmap and by doing that we can turn our nation around.

My opinion over all? I liked the film. It was made well, really focuses on how God’s word in Genesis can be used as a great tool to help our nation get back on the right track.  I hope this film does very well.

I had not seen a whole lot about this movie other than a billboard when I took Princess to Nashville for her 13th birthday trip this past September.  Then I read a very short synopsis. They did a good job of piquing your interest.  Giving you just enough of the story to want to see more.  I wasn’t sure what I was getting into but when Fly By Promotions offered it to me to review and giveaway I gladly accepted.

If you can’t see the trailer below you can click here to see it.

It’s a family friendly film. I was actually very impressed with that considering it has actress Ashley Judd and actor Seth Green. Not that they are bad at their jobs but I’ve seen movies with both that were definitely not family friendly.  However, this one is and I was glad that when my kids walked into the room there was nothing to be shocked at.

I will say its not my absolute favorite movie but I did enjoy it. It is worth watching at least once. My heart went out to the mom’s in this film and to Ryan Wade, played by Blake Rayne.  It’s a storyunnamed of a man trying to find his own call in life.  His father wants him to follow in his own footsteps as a minister. However, Ryan has a pull to sing and write music. So you see the struggle not only the son is having with trying to find where he fits in but also with the father as he has to try to let go and let his son follow God’s plan for his life. There were some very moving moments in the story.

I was impressed with Ray Liotta and Ashley Judd in this movie. Blake Rayne sounds exactly like Elvis when he sings. At one point I thought I was listening to Elvis singing the songs but the music is all original to this movie. If you enjoyed the music of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s you will definitely enjoy this movie.

For me this movie receives 4 out of 5 stars.
