I am so excited about this review today. You may be wondering why. Well it’s because my absolutely adorable husband is guest posting on this one. When I was asked if my husband might be willing to guest post for a men’s book I was excited and kinda sorta talked him into it. Yet he has done an awesome job, as you will soon find out. Anyone, I will not digress any longer. OH and before I forget make sure you scroll to the bottom and enter for a chance to win a copy of this book for the man in your life.
The 5 Love Languages for Men: Tools for Making a Good Relationship Great, New Edition
By Gary Chapman / Northfield Publishing
Designed just for men, this new edition of Gary Chapman’s The Five Love Languages for Men guides husbands, boyfriends, and fiancés in speaking their sweetheart’s love language and offers practical and simple tips to get you going. Includes an updated version of The 5 Love Languages & personal profile.
The Five Love Languages for Men, by Gary Chapman is a book that your wife hands you and you immediately say, “oh come on don’t make me read that.” However, I agreed with Dianna to read the book and give you an expressed opinion from the “male point of view.” The book itself is kind of like the original classic by Dr. Chapman, The Five Love Languages. Yet with this one he goes out of his way to make it more appealing to those men readers out there. He includes nice side notes and facts that appeal to our “give it to us straight” typical way of thinking and it even has pictures!!!
The book includes descriptions of all five love languages and gives enough information for men to not only recognize it in our lovely wives, but also in ourselves. It includes survey-type studies at the back that helps husbands and wives discover the language of our love. Another aspect of the book is a Q&A section that really is an eye opener and does answer some tough questions (but it still doesn’t answer the, ‘do I look fat in this dress’ question’.
In regards to my personal experience with the book, I would immediately point to the chapter about anger (Chptr 9). I’ve always struggled with my anger, especially with those I love the most. Thankfully the Lord has been training me in new ways to express my anger and handle it. Reading this chapter re-enforced what the Lord has shown me and has made me even more aware of my temper; especially towards my wife.
I would invite any husband to read this book (especially if he’s trying to be that Ephesians 5 husband). No matter where you are in your marriage, girding it up with wisdom, such as this book, is a bonus. And hey, you must always remember, “if mama ain’t happy, ain’t no body happy.” Amen, hallelujah, nuff said.
