731245: Weird Wonderful Creations Weird Wonderful Creations

This non-fiction book features four complete titles from the Made by God series with photos and facts that show children the wonder of God’s creation! Titles include: Spiders, Snakes, Bees and Bats; Big Bugs, Little Bugs; Sea Creatures; and Poisonous, Smelly, and Amazing Plants.

This is a great educational book put out by Zondervan. With it being 4 books in 1 you are getting a whole collection of information about animals. It is for kids  in elementary school and it talks about animals from a Creation standpoint, which as a homeschool mom I absolutely love. Watch the video to hear more of my review.

731153: Legend of St. Nicholas Legend of St. Nicholas
By Dandi Daley Mackall / ZondervanThis newly illustrated edition of The Legend of St. Nicholas features captivating artwork by Bad Dog, Marley illustrator Richard Cowdrey to tell the story of a young man named Nicholas who was moved by the plight of the poor and needy. Nicholas spent his life secretly helping those in need all over the world, giving gifts on Christmas Eve to remind people of the greatest Gift of all: Jesus Christ.

Such a cute story of the Legend of St. Nicholas. We follow a boy who quickly learns what the true meaning of giving gifts at Christmas means. It’s a sweet story and one that can quickly become a favorite holiday classic.  We see the Legend behind the figure of St. Nicholas. Check out the video for my thoughts.

God Gave Us Angels
By Lisa Tawn Bergren / WaterBrook Press

What do angels do? What do they look like? Why are they here? Follow Little Cub and Papa Bear as they wander their arctic neighborhood and discuss all the questions youngsters have about angels. A delightfully illustrated book that’s perfect for teaching your 3- to 7-year-olds about heavenly beings.

Another fun favorite from the “God Gave Us” series by Lisa Tawn Bergren. I absolutely love the images and the story. I like how they explain that you do not become an Angel when you die. That God created the Angels to serve him.  This is a fun picture book and would make a great book for your 3-7 year olds. I love the interaction between the little bear and the dad. The dad is leading the discussion about Angels and their job to protect God’s children.

You can purchase a copy of this book at for $7.99.

Catie Conrad: Faith, Friendship and Fashion Disasters
By Angie Spady & Channing Everidge / B&H Kids

Meet, Catie Conrad — a typical, tween, Christian girl with, oh, the weight of the world on her shoulders. And if it isn’t bad enough that no one seems to understand the social pressures of being the greatest at everything, donning the latest fashions, and carrying the trendiest technology, Catie’s dad is about to uproot her and her family to an Indian reservation during spring break for his job. Throw in a school dance, a major art contest, and an arch nemesis known only as Miranda Maroni and there’s bound to be an epic meltdown of biblical proportions. Or, maybe not.

I really like this new series. It’s a great Christian alternative to the Dork Diaries and it’s a great series for middle school girls. It was a fun read and its now in the hands of my middle school daughter who enjoys a fun faith filled story about girls her own age. I like how faith is not just a side note in this story. It’s the essence of who the family is that the main character is a part of. You see how she is constantly trying to do the right thing and pray for people even though they make it difficult to pray for them. Everyone can agree that we all have at least one person like that in our lives. I recommend running out and grabbing a copy of this book as a last minute Christmas gift.

The Princess Spy
By Melanie Dickerson / Zondervan

Margaretha has always been a romantic, and she hopes her newest suitor, Lord Claybrook, is destined to be her one true love. But then an injured man is brought to Hagenheim Castle, claiming to be an English lord who was attacked by Claybrook and left for dead. And only Mararetha—one of the few who speaks his language—understands the wild story.

Unable to pass his message on to her father, the duke, Margaretha convinces herself “Lord Colin” is just an addled stranger. But when Colin asks her to spy on Claybrook as repayment for retrieving a lost heirloom, Margaretha discovers that she might be very wrong about both Colin and her potential betrothed.

This was a fun quick read for me. The story capture my interest and attention immediately. There is intrigue, some humor and of course romance. You can feel the tension between the hero and heroine. It’s a great story without being a highly invested read. This is definitely a story that could be read in a weekend away and is a stand alone novel. I think I would like to try reading other books by this author as well. She has definitely gained my attention.

You can purchase a copy of this book at for $9.49.

735811: Two Renegade Realms, Realm Walkers Series #2 Two Renegade Realms, Realm Walkers Series #2
By Donita K. Paul / ZondervanCantor, Bixby, and Dukmee must band together to find the storied realm walker Chomountain after a devastating attack by the corrupt Realm Walkers Guild. But what they discover while traveling turns their mission upside down: the great wizard is not as he once was, and they must now find a way to restore Chomountain before they and he can restore the Guild once more.

I highly recommend reading the first book before starting this one. I didn’t realize that after I received it that it was boo 2. There were some questions that I was left with and it is definitely a story that will continue into another book. That said the story was fun and fantastical. I love the imagination of the author and the use of fantasy in her work. The ideas of shape-shifting dragons, flat worlds and other dimensions is used very well in this book. I’m going to have to go back and read the first book.
