I know I am bit behind posting, only because I have a lot going on but I promise I won’t completely forget about you all.
Last week was week 11 of our Journey Through Ephesians study that I have been working through. We covered Ephesians 6:1-9. These verses talk about your relationship with your children and your work, whether you’re the employer or the employee.
Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord,[a] for this is the right thing to do. 2 “Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise: 3 If you honor your father and mother, “things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.”[b]
4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.
Slaves and Masters
5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ. 6 Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. As slaves of Christ, do the will of God with all your heart.7 Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. 8 Remember that the Lord will reward each one of us for the good we do, whether we are slaves or free.
9 Masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Don’t threaten them; remember, you both have the same Master in heaven, and he has no favorites. (Ephesians 6:1-9 NLT)
Verses 1-4 covers the parent child relationship. First it tells children to obey their parents and if they do that they will live a long time on the earth. Secondly it talks about provoking our children to anger by the way we treat them. We need to use discipline and instruction that comes from the Word of God. We need to be careful that we are not provoking our kids but honoring God in the way we parent them.
Verses 5-9 covers the relationship between employer and employee. It tells the Employee to obey our employers with deep respect and serve them as you would serve Christ. It tells the Employers to treat your employees the same way because you will be held accountable by God for your actions towards them.
This tells me that no matter what relationship you fall into you need to do it as unto the Lord. You need to honor God in all you do.
